Health & Safety

Can I hire a hot tub if I have medical conditions?

We would suggest you consult your GP before hiring a hot tub if you suffer from heart disease, diabetes, high or low blood pressure or any other ongoing medical conditions prior to hiring a hot tub from Hire Hot Tub UK.

Can I hire a hot tub if I’m pregnant?

Because it's not a good idea to raise your core body temperature to 102 degrees or higher while pregnant, we wouldn’t recommend in hiring a hot tub until after the birth of your child. For further information, please visit the NHS website on the common health questions on pregnancy by clicking here.

Are your hot tubs safe for children?

Yes, absolutely for children aged 6 and above. Firstly, getting into the hot tub and relaxing as a family is great. It's a wonderful way to spend time together without any screens or added distractions. It's perfectly safe to let your children use your hot tub, but please be aware of a few necessary precautions.

1. Secure Your Cover

All our hot tubs come with a lockable hot tub thermal cover to stop children being able to open it and from being able to get into the hot tub unattended. Please ensure the hot tub thermal cover is always secured when unattended.

2. Lower the Temperature

Children cannot cope with sitting in a hot tub with very hot water for as long as adults. It's easier for them to dehydrate, become light-headed and feel poorly. Reduce the temperature and keep it at no more than 35°C when you have young children in the spa with you. Keep their maximum soaking time to about 10-15 minutes at most.

3. Supervise them

We know this sounds obvious, but we really should make it clear. Always supervise young children in any body of water, but especially a hot tub. They could end up drowning, or pushing their hands into the filtration system, or trying to get out and falling and hurting themselves. Girls with long hair should ensure its tied back (or up, ideally) to stop hair from getting sucked into the filtration system.

Are the hot tub electrics safe?

Yes, all our hot tubs are high-quality devices and very safe to use. To counteract any potential threat of water and electricity, we supply a residual safety device (RCD). An RCD is a sensitive safety device that switches off electricity automatically to prevent the water from becoming electrified.

How will I know the water is safe?

Each hire receives a chemical and water testing kit. We’ll guide you through how to use these when we deliver the tub so you can make regular checks throughout your rental. If at any stage you’re unsure about the water quality, please contact us and we will provide the necessary assistance to ensure you can enjoy the hot tub safely.

Will the hot tub have been cleaned after its last hire?

Yes. Cleanliness and hygiene are our number one priority. Our hot tubs are thoroughly cleaned, sterilised and recorded after each use by a trained hot tub technician. We are so confident in our pledge that during installation we ask each customer to look and agree to the condition of the tub before signing our hire agreement.

Do I need to check the water chemicals during my hot tub hire?

Yes. When you hire a hot tub from Hire Hot Tub UK you get training on how to maintain the water balance and you are supplied with all the chemicals and testing equipment for the duration of your hot tub hire. We recommend that you test the water every day during your hot tub hire and top up water and chemicals as required. If you have any issues with the water during your hot tub hire contact Hire Hot Tub UK immediately on the emergency number provided and we will provide you with immediate guidance.

What chemicals are used in the hot tub?

Each chemical kit provided includes the following; chlorine tablets (they are placed in the filter system), chlorine granules, Spa shock, pH Plus, pH Minus, TA alkalinity boost, foam free, test strips, step-by-step guide and water management recording sheets.

How long can I stay in the hot tub for?

There is not really a recommended time limit for being in your hot tub, but at 40° it is advised that you should take a break after 15 minutes, and to only stay in longer at lower temperatures. Always remember to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water.

How many people can fit in the hot tub at once?

Our hot tub provides enough space for 5/6 grown adults to bathe simultaneously. Overloading the hot tub can cause damage for which you will be liable. Each person entering the hot tub will raise the water level roughly 5-7cm. When the bubbles/jets are activated the water level again rises by a similar amount.

Hot Tub Care

Can I put aromatherapy products in my Hot Tub?

Yes, Hire Hot Tub UK provides a range of hot tub aromatherapy crystals and scents to purchase which are designed to be added directly to the water. To find out more information, please visit our online shop by clicking here.

What happens if I do not want to put any chemicals in my Hot Tub?

This is not recommended, and Hire Hot Tub UK can and will refuse installation of equipment as the safety of all persons entering the hot tub is compromised.

How do I clean my Hot Tub filter?

We provide new filter for each hire, however if your filter gets clogged with grass, hair and other objects, please follow the following instructions carefully:

  1. Turn off the hot tub from the mains and remove the plug from the socket

  2. Remove the filter from the housing unit

  3. Use a hose pipe with good water pressure to remove all objects from the pleats

  4. Place filter back into the housing unit

  5. Insert the plug into the socket and switch on

Why has my Hot Tub turned cloudy?

Sometimes cloudy water is simply caused by pH not being in proper balance. Check the pH level of your water with the test strips provided and adjust if not in the correct range (7.2-7.6 is ideal for hot tub water). Sometimes correcting the pH also corrects water clarity. Add a small amount of clarifier to your hot tub.

Can I use bubble bath in my Hot Tub?

No, hot tubs aren't intended to be used as a bathtub, especially when it comes to soap and suds of any kind. This can cause costly damages and a major foam issue. Never add bubble bath, shampoo, detergent or any other soap products.

What can I do if my chlorine levels are too high?

Chlorine levels should be between 3.0 to 5.0mg/l. If your chlorine levels are higher, the best way to reduce the chlorine level is by draining the hot tub by 50% and refill it with fresh water, you can add the required chemicals again by carefully testing the water. If you need help figuring out the correct amount to chlorine to add to your hot tub water, feel free to give our on-call technician a call.

Why is it important to add chlorine to my hot tub?

Chlorine is a commonly used chemical to achieve satisfactory bacteriological and chemical purity in hot tubs. It must be present in the ‘free’ form to kill bacteria and oxidise organic matter derived from bathers. Provided the water is balanced, chlorine levels of between 3.0 to 5.0mg/l are enough to maintain healthy, clean water. A well-managed chlorine treated hot tub will have no odour and levels of chloramines (combined chlorine) of less than 0.5mg/l.

Combined chlorine is created as a result of a reaction between free chlorine and organic matter and is a mixture of Monochloramine, Dichloramine and Nitrogen Trichloride. The latter is mostly produced when the water is not being treated adequately and gives rise to the ‘chlorine’ odour.

Collection

How do you remove the water?

We use a professional water pump which takes out the water from the hot tub into the most viable exit area – which can include a drain, or any other area deemed suitable.

What time do you collect the hot tub?

The hot tub is normally collected at the same time of installation. If you require an earlier or later pick-up, please confirm this on date of installation and we will try to accommodate your request.

When will I receive my security deposit?

Unlike many companies, Hire Hot Tub UK doesn’t take a security deposit on booking. However, by agreeing to our terms and conditions ‘equipment rental agreement’, the hirer is liable for any damages caused during the hire.

Can I buy the hot tub I’ve hired?

Yes, you can purchase a range of hot tubs from Hire Hot Tub UK under our “Hire it – Love It – Buy It promotion. Should you decide to purchase a new hot tub within 12 months of your first initial hire, we will refund the full hot tub hire fee from the purchase price of your new hot tub (Subject to availability). To view our full range of hot tubs for sale and current prices, please click here.

Will you need me to be here on collection?

No, if we can gain safe access to the location of the hot tub and have power, you don’t need to be there during the uplift of the hot tub, but please remember to leave the chemical kit provided near the hot tub.

Do I need to empty the hot tub prior to your arrival?

No. The hot tub needs to be switch on and fully operational on our arrival to ensure that its in good working condition. The water is then pumped out with our professional water pump to the nearest and most viable exit area – which can include a drain, or any other area deemed suitable.
